So here is what I am looking into...
First these are unbleached Indian cotton prefolds. Basically they are about $3.50 each but last the entire age of your child (average age of wearing cloth 8-12 months) so totally worth it if you think that you pay$50 to $80 a month for disposable diapers (for up to 2.5 years!) really it saves a lot of money. Not to mention where are the disposable diapers go...land fills.
So you ask what about messes? Well they aren't as messy as you think plus you can buy all sorts of different kinds of cloth diapers that are just like disposables in protecting against blow outs but if you learn to fold prefolds right then there are no messes. Yes they are the diapers like our grandmas used with plastic covers and again you can get those really cheap and you only need a couple sizes.
Also instead of pinning they have this great invention called Snappi's. Seen below. They are easy and reusable.
So in the end this is what we are looking at:

ReplyDeletegood luck! there are some that seem kinda cool, but i haven't looked into it too much. my mom used cloth diapers for like a week with her first baby. :) but those were the old school ones.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with those! They also make cloth diapers with plastic on the outside and adjustable snaps so they grow with your baby! Also they have an insert that you can take out and wash......they come in different colors too. If you are interested in those too let me know and I will get the info from my sister-in-law that uses them.
ReplyDeleteAbout Utah...we ended up leaving early because ALL of us were NOT feeling well. I had flu symtoms....ewwww I will be down again! Hey when the babes is born maybe!! I could do newborn pics!!
look at you. Very ambitious. I could never do the cloth diaper thing, but it probably saves some money. SO what do you do, when you are out for an entire day and you have poopy cloth diapers to carry around? THAT is probably the most discouraging part for me, and actually it all just seems too dirty for me! GOOD LUCK!
ReplyDeleteJust fyi, I would say we only spend about $30/month on disposable diapers. And we buy Huggies, so they're good quality. But if you want to do the cloth thing, go for it! If our moms and grandmas could do it, there's no reason we can't! The diapers your previous commenter was talking about are g diapers, check out www.gdiapers.com. We've used them a little bit and they work fine, but they're easily more expensive than regular disposables. Just more environmentally friendly.
